Santosha: Finding Ease in the Season You’re In
I’ve been noticing the heat lately — not just in the weather, but in my energy. Some days it feels like everything moves just a little slower. And it made me think about how we all move through different “seasons” within ourselves, regardless of what’s happening outside.
In yoga philosophy, there’s a word for gently meeting yourself where you are: Santosha.
It means contentment, but not in the “everything is fine, just be happy” way. It’s more about acknowledging how you’re feeling and responding with care.
It doesn’t ask you to love every moment.
It just asks you to be honest and kind with what’s here.
How This Looks in Everyday Life
Santosha isn’t big or dramatic.
Most of the time, it’s small things like:
Choosing to do your movement in the morning or evening because the middle of the day feels too hot.
Slowing down your pace when your energy is low.
Giving yourself permission to rest when you need to.
Letting your inner season be different from the season outside.
This isn’t giving up.
This is tending to yourself.
A Simple Check-In Practice
Once today, simply pause and notice:
How does your body feel?
How is your energy?
What would feel supportive right now?
It might be water.
Shade.
Quiet.
Or even a moment with your hand on your heart.
Small things make a difference.
Journal Prompts
How are you feeling physically and emotionally today?
Describe it simply, in your own words — tired, calm, overstretched, steady, heavy, open, flat, warm. Just name what’s here.
What is one small change that would make today feel a little easier or more supportive?
It could be moving slower, drinking more water, turning off your phone for 10 minutes, choosing shade, asking for help, or resting earlier.
Is there anything you’re pushing yourself to do in a way that doesn’t feel quite right?
If yes — how could you soften that just a little? Not changing everything — just softening.
