I want to pay my heartfelt respect to the traditional custodians of the beautiful fertile land in which I call home. This is the land of the Bindal and Yuru people, and I acknowledge and pay respect to the people and elders of both this community and our country, both past and present. I acknowledge their ancient spiritual, cultural and physical connection to Mother Earth and Father Sky.
 
I hope to see a day when we, as a nation, fully acknowledge the legacy of colonisation on this country and its first people. And I deeply want to be a part of a new country where connections to people, land and country are born.
