Tiroana is a sanctuary for the mind, body and spirit
Our Mission
Tiroana’s mission is to cultivate a space for individuals to deepen their connection to mind, body, and spirit through the practice of meditation and yoga.
Our classes and events foster a sense of inner peace, self-awareness, and community, empowering individuals to integrate mindfulness and well-being into their daily lives.
By blending ancient wisdom with modern techniques, Tiroana encourages growth, healing, and balance in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Tiroana
A blend of three words:
Shanti from Sanskrit, meaning stillness; Respiro from Italian, meaning breath; and Anam from Gaelic, meaning soul.
About Tiroana Meditation and Yoga
-
Tiroana was created as a response to a simple need — a calm, welcoming space in the local community where people could pause, breathe, and reconnect.
For many people, modern life feels fast, full, and demanding. Tiroana exists as a counterpoint to that pace. It’s a place to slow down, settle the nervous system, and come back into relationship with the body and mind in a way that feels supportive and sustainable.
-
Tiroana was founded on the belief that yoga and meditation are not about performance, flexibility, or ticking a box. They are practices of awareness — skills that help people meet everyday life with more steadiness, clarity, and ease.
This studio was created for those who may feel unsure, overwhelmed, tired, or out of place in more fitness‑focused environments. It’s for people who want guidance, gentleness, and permission to go at their own pace.
-
Located in Ayr, Tiroana is a small, intentionally designed studio that values connection over scale. Classes are kept supportive and personal, allowing space for individual guidance, choice, and care.
This is not a space where you’re expected to keep up or push through. Rest is welcomed. Curiosity is encouraged. Listening to your own experience is considered part of the practice.
-
Yoga and meditation are offered as complementary practices that support the relationship between mind and body.
Classes begin with grounding and arrival, helping the body and nervous system settle before movement or stillness unfolds. From there, breath, awareness, gentle movement, and rest are woven together in a way that supports learning rather than striving.
Over time, students are encouraged to develop self‑awareness and trust in their own experience, carrying these skills beyond the studio and into everyday life.
-
At its core, Tiroana is about creating a sense of sanctuary — a place where people feel safe to arrive as they are, without needing to be different or better.
Whether someone comes seeking stillness, gentle movement, or a deeper connection to themselves, they’re met with care, respect, and steadiness.
Tiroana exists to remind people that calm, clarity, and connection are not things to achieve — they are qualities that can be returned to, again and again.
More than just a class or a studio; Tiroana is a space designed for those seeking balance and connection in their lives.
In stillness, we find ourselves.
In community, we find strength.

Meet Shona
Hi — I’m Shona, the founder of Tiroana Meditation & Yoga Collective.
Alongside teaching at the studio, I also work as a Registered Nurse — a role that has deepened my appreciation for presence, calm, and human connection. This background shapes how I hold space: gently, attentively, and without judgment.
Yoga and meditation became part of my own journey back to balance — practices that offered stillness, clarity, and a sense of recalibration in the midst of a full and busy life.
Tiroana grew from that experience of reconnection, created as a sanctuary where others can pause, breathe, and return to a feeling of ease within themselves.
I’m a qualified Meditation Teacher and Guide, and a Yoga Teacher trained in Hatha, Yin, and Restorative practices. My approach is accessible, heart-centred, and grounded in mindfulness. Classes are designed to be inclusive and beginner-friendly — an invitation to slow down, listen inward, and gently come home to yourself.
